3-day vacation in Oslo

3-day vacation in Oslo

Oslo is a fantastic European city to visit any time of the year and offers many exciting and unique experiences for everyone. Situated at a beautiful fjord and surrounded by forests and mountains, it is the perfect destination to combine city sightseeing with true nature adventures. Whilst in the city centre you can visit Frognerparken, Gamla Byen, the Norwegian Opera House, The National Gallery, Akershus Fortress and of course the many fantastic shops, cafés and restaurants. Close-by you can go for a nature bike ride, a walk or even a cross country skiing adventure, just to name a few. You can also go on a guided boat tour of the city for something really relaxing.

Read on for our 3-day sample itinerary of Oslo, but feel free to stay for longer!

Day 1 – Frognerparken, Art, Culture, Shopping and Café life

Start your city tour in the heart of Olso by visiting Frognerparken, famous for the lifework of artist Gustav Vigeland’s impressive 212 sculptures.

Then spend the afternoon in Gamle Byen (The Old Town) and see how Oslo was back in the days. There are several landmarks, large parks as well as a Botanical Garden, Medieval Park and the Edvard Munch Museum to keep you busy.

To rest up head to Anker Brygge, the perfect place for a beer and some traditional Norwegian meals. Try Reinsdyrsteik (reindeer steak) whilst enjoying the view of the harbour.

Day 2 – Boat trip and the Norwegian Opera

The islands that make up the fjord around Oslo are a good example of Norwegian nature and beauty. This area is easily accessible by boats or ferries which run frequently. Make sure to see the beautiful Langayene, which is an incredible sight in the summer, or visit the ruins of an old cloister for a glimpse into the history of the island.

A perfect way to end the day is a ballet at the newly built Norwegian Opera. Made of glass and marble, the building itself is worth the visit.

Day 3 –The National Gallery and the historical Akershus Fortress

The National Gallery has Norway's largest collection of Norwegian, Nordic and international art from the beginning of the 19th century up until today, including Edvard Munch’s major works.

Having seen amazing art, make sure to visit the Akershus Fortress. Building commenced in 1299 under King Håkon V. It has withstood a number of sieges throughout the ages and today it is a royal residence. Don’t miss out on these historical treasures, both situated within walking distance of the city centre.

End your trip at one of Oslo’s six Michelin star restaurants, for instance Statsholdergaarden which offers a six-course gourmet menu full of surprises.
