3 day City Break in Copenhagen

Being one of Europe’s oldest cities and recently named the Number One city to live by lifestyle magazine Monocle, Copenhagen offers an extensive range of opportunities. It is a modern metropolis combined with traditional charm – from beautiful castles and imposing architectural buildings to hip restaurants and trendy fashion stores. You can tour the canals, explore the city by bike, visit Tivoli or Bakken amusement park, take a walk in the beautiful wooded area, Dyrehaven, surrounding Bakken or simply just relax at one of the plentiful cafés in Copenhagen.

Day 1 – exploring the Inner City

Start by having brunch at one of the lovely cafes near Kongens Nytorv. Stop by Amalienborg Palace to see the Royal Residence with the Royal Guard on duty 24/7. Scroll down Stoget and stop at Amagertorv to observe the Copenhageners and feel the buzz over lunch.

Visit the Round Tower for a stunning view over the city and stop off at the National Museum to learn about Danish history. Do as the Copenhageners and sip tea – try Sing teahouse for an impressive tea selection and Japanese cuisine.

End the day by visiting Tivoli, in the heart of Copenhagen or visit Bakken, Europe’s oldest amusement park.

Day 2 – Copenhagen by bike

Rent one of the colourful city bikes by paying only 20 DKK in deposit and have the freedom to do what ever you like. For an alternative experience, visit Christiania, the Freetown of Copenhagen. Take a ride around Holmen and go pass Christianshavns Canal on the way back.

Relax at Nyhavn, a beautiful canal lined with cafes, bars and restaurants. Hop on board on one of the guided tour boats. The tour will take you past the Little Mermaid, The Opera, The Black Diamond and many other picturesque areas and inspiring buildings. Try homebrewed beer at one of the many micro breweries, serving both homebrewed beer and excellent food.

Day 3 – Copenhagen and surroundings

On a sunny day go for a swim at one of the popular harbour baths. Try Islands Brygge with five basins, two of them for children.

Take a trip to Kronborg Castle in Elsinore (Helsingør) The castle is from the Renaissance and well known from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. If you visit the Castle in clear weather you can get a perfect view of Sweden across the Sound.

End the day by dinning at one of the Michelin Stared restaurants in Copenhagen. Try for example Noma located in Christianshavn, across from Nyhavn, serving gourmet Danish food - modern and seafood.
