Scandinavian experience in a nutshell

September 25, 2008

It was time to put on those platform shoes on Wednesday September 24… as The Scandinavian Tourist Board (STB) together with Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) put on a show to remember at Vibe Hotel in Rushcutters Bay, Sydney.

The Sydney travel industry was invited to this ABBA themed event to get the tips on what's hot and what's not about this unique Nordic destination from the insiders with local knowledge and wisdom.

Guests danced the night away to the tunes of ABBA, enjoyed a cleansing ale with a Carlsberg beer, a traditional Scandinavian smorgasbord with delicacies from all three countries; Denmark, Norway and Sweden, and finished the evening off with a schnapps!

The Scandinavian Tourist Board wanted to celebrate the fact that Australians love Scandinavia. In 2007, Scandinavia as a whole hosted 69,614 Australian bed nights: the equivalent of 69,614 Australians staying one night each. Norway and Sweden competed for the most popular destination, with 41,420 and 40,760 bed nights respectively; while Denmark was close behind with 37,227. This year promises to be even better, with Sweden leading the pack at 28,847 bed nights between January and July – an increase of 29% for 2008 so far.
