The Midnight Sun Witchcraft Conference is just one of the events you can find out about on the Scandinavian Tourist Board’s new website for Australians.

From the baptism of the new half Aussie princess, actor Bruce Spence’s thoughts on travelling in Sweden, through to the Norwegian Midnight Sun Witchcraft convention, www.visitscandinavia.com.au will keep you abreast of everything Scandinavian.

A WHAT’S HOT FOR TRAVELLERS

This month: Snorkelling with Whales in NorwayDon a dry suit and jump in with hundreds of killer whales. Every October you can swap your sunglasses for a snorkel and swim with these beautiful creatures. The scenery is spectacular, the pods are large and the experience is unrivalled. Warm up afterwards with a hearty reindeer stew and some cloud berry schnapps.

Our events calendar includes one for all budding wizards. From June 28 - July 1, the Midnight Sun Witchcraft Conference will take place in Vardø. Vardo, where one of the most extensive witch hunts took place in the 17th century, has been chosen this year by several universities who are organising this conference. These include the University of Tromsø (Norway), the University of Texas (Austin, USA) and the University of Tampere (Finland).

DESTINATIONS AND ATTRACTIONS

You’ll also find everything you could want to know about what to see and do in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, how to get there, where to stay, up-to-date weather information, a currency converter and beautiful images for media to download.

“Scandinavia is filled with culture and can offer the Australian traveler unique experiences”, comments Swedish born Susanne Carpenter, MD Carpe Diem and project manager for STB in Australia. “While gazing at the beautiful midnight sun you can also experience an exhilarating “off-piste” down hill escapade; reindeer safari in the Sami area or you can glide on crystal clear water in a fishing boat through dramatic mountain landscape and enormous glaciers on one of Norway’s’ fjords, Carpenter adds.

If you want more personal information, there’s also a blog which features actor Bruce Spence this month.

STB will be encouraging Danes to contribute to the blog so local information on the next Royal Christening can be featured. The little Danish Princess will be ten weeks old when she is christened on July 1 at Fredensborg Palace Chapel. She is likely to wear the same family christening gown worn by Christian. The Tasmanian Government will give the little princess a gift of custom-made jewellery symbolic of Tasmania.

As part of the royal christening celebration, STB will also run a competition where you can win a fantastic Copenhagen city break sponsored by Adina Apartment Hotel Copenhagen.

So log on to www.visitscandinavia.com.au to find out why Scandinavia is the perfect destination for your next holiday.
