Old Uppsala

'Gamla Uppsala' is a township outside Uppsala in Sweden. As early as the 3rd century AD it was an important religious, economic and political centre. Gamla Uppsala was well-known in Northern Europe as the residence of the Swedish kings of the legendary Yngling dynasty. During the Middle Ages, it was also the location of the Thing of all Swedes which was a thing (general assembly) held from pre-historic times to the Middle Ages. The mounts of the three kings, the Gamla Uppsala church and the Disagården open-air museum are the key highlights in this area.


Steninge Castle & Culture Centre

The Steninge Castle is located on the outskirts of Sigtuna and it is a beautiful baroque style architecture that is built in 1705. The culture centre which is located next to the castle has, among other interesting things, a glass workshop where you can experience glass blowing. Sometimes people also get married here.

History museum

The museum exhibitions Swedish relics from the early times to the Viking era and furniture and clothes from the Middle Ages. The museum holds a collection of more than 3, 000 pieces of jewellery, which is classified as national treasures, are stored in the Gold Room.

Riddarholm Church Riddarholmskyrkan

Located on the island of Ridarholmen, to the west of Gamla Stan, this building was built as a monastery in the 13th century. It was then turned into a Gothic church, and is now the burial place of every Swedish monarch since King Gustav 2 Adolf was buried here in 1634.

Gusutavianum

The Gustavianum was built in the 1620s to be the main building of Scandinavia's oldest university, and served as such through most of the 19th century. The building is now home to the University Museum, holding five permanent exhibitions. The history of the university from 1477 to the present day is highlighted, as is the Anatomical Theater. The famous Augsburg Art Cabinet and unique objects like Celsius' thermometer is also on display. The university collections of Nordic, Classical and Egyptian antiquities are also on show.

Karlstad

A sport city abundant in radiant sunshine. North of the Vänern lake, a city located between Stockholm and Oslo. It is abundant in lakes, rivers, greenery and sunshine, especially since this is the city's symbol. Karlstad is known as a city of sports and activities. Boat and canoe sailing on the lakes and rivers, fishing, cycling, hiking, horse riding and many other sports are enjoyed daily here, and courses and facilities are abundant. The people are very enthusiastic about supporting sports too; especially the first stage of the bicycle race "Sweden Rally" that is held in the Varmland District and that attracts many fans.

Museum of Junibacken/Astrid Lindgen Junibacken

This museum was opened in 1996 on the seashore adjacent to Vasamuseum. The miniature world of fairytales written by Astrid Lindgren, one of the most notable fairytale writers in Sweden, has been recreated featuring the people and sceneries that appear in the books. In addition to the various exhibitions, the museum also has a children's playground, so a visit can be enjoyed by the entire family.

Parliament Riksdaghuset

A grey stonework building located in front of the Royal Palace on the island of Hergeandsholmen. It has served as the political centre since it was erected in 1905.

Mora

Mora, located on the northern shore of the Siljan Lake, is the central town of Darlana. The men of Mora in 1520 answered the call of King Gustav Vasa to fight the war of Denmark. To commemorate this, a cross-country ski competition known as the "Vasa Loppet"is held here every winter.

Kalmar County Museum

Opened in 1987, this museum displays many features of local culture. The biggest highlight is the war ship "Kronan" that was sunk on the reefs of Oland in the 1676 war against the Danish and German union.

Museum of the Northern Tribe

Nordiska Museet is located in a Renaissance style building, located beyond the Djurgården Bridge. It exhibits handicraft work collected from various parts of the country and introduces traditional Swedish culture. The collections shed light on tribal history and the permanent exhibition, situated in the basement is very interesting.

Gustavsbergs Proceline Museum

Gustavsbergs Porceline Museum has over 50 000 visitors each year. It is located in the harbor of Gustavsberg which is located outside Stockholm. From here you can learn about the history of Gustavsberg's famous china factory and how to make and paint porcelain. You can also purchase porcelain products.

Milesgården

The residence of Carl Miles, a famous Swedish sculptor, this facility was renovated and turned into a museum after he died. His work is based on mythology and the exhibitions include his works and other artist’s collections. If you are tired of viewing art, you can simply enjoy beautiful views in the terraced garden.

Domkyrkan cathedral

A cathedral built in 1730 by Christian Haller. It is one of the few buildings to have survived the great fire of 1865

The New Fortress Museum

The New Fortress Museum at Vaxholm citadel was officially opened by the King of Sweden in 2003 and is the Swedish armed forces largest museum. The museum's aim is to describe the history of Sweden's coastal defense with special attention given to the development of the archipelago's defenses over 500 years.
