Kulturhistoriska open air museum

Apart from the collection of 30 farm houses and manner houses from southern Sweden, pottery, glass, silverware and textiles are on exhibit.

Art Museum Konstmuseet

Displays the traditional furniture-craft from the Middle Ages through to the works of contemporary artists.


Mariebergsskogen

A park displaying the historical buildings of the Varmland District. Apart from the exhibitions of interesting structures of windmills and water wills, inside the park there is a small zoo and a tower for bird watching. The walking paths are well maintained.

Oriental Museum (Östasiatiska Museet)

This museum was originally built as a residence for the guards who worked for Karl XII during his reign. It was opened as an arts museum in 1963 and displays mainly collections of Chinese works, but the museum also contains many works from countries such as Japan, India and Korea.

City Museum Stadshuset

Many of the area's traditional style textiles, clothing and handicrafts are on display together with a history corner of Malmo.

Vimmerby

The home of Astrid Lindgren.

This is the town where Astrid Lindgrens grew up in. She is a Swedish children's book writer known for the works of "Pippi Longstocking"and "Lotta". Vimmerby is an old town with colourful houses.

There is a workshop where you can see the production progress of the local specialty woodcraft and Darlana horses.

Falun

A town that grew from the copper mines. This town's mining history dates back to the Viking age and it is said to be one of the largest mines in the world. The copper mine was registered as a World Heritage site in 2001.

Långholmens Prison Museum

Långholmens, the green island in the middle of Stockholm, was once home to Sweden's largest prison from 1724 to 1989. The building has been restored and is now a hotel, hostel and a conference centre. A part of the facility is open to the public where you can enter the prison cells.
