Southern Region

Southern Sweden is easily travelled and since the opening of Oresund, a bridge between Denmark & Sweden, the gap between the two neighbouring countries has become negligible.

Southern Sweden is often referred to as the cradle of Swedish design, especially in the district of Småland. The famous Kingdom of Crystal in Småland has become one of Sweden's most popular tourist destinations.

All over southern Sweden there are about 200 historically and culturally fascinating castles, chateaus and manor houses from various historic eras that are well worth visiting. Many of these castles have been lovingly transformed into hotels, conference facilities and retreats, offering stylish and historic accommodation.

Welcome to southern Sweden!

Hyttsillsafton

Glass factories were not only places of work but also served as social centres for meetings, debates and more festive activities like singing. It was customary in these instances to bake sill (herring) after work using the leftover heat from the furnace (hytt). Some glass factories host "Hyttsillsafton", where you can experience this tradition. Apart from sill, the menu includes Småland's specialty sausages, baked potatoes, beer, mineral water, cheese cake, coffee and tea.
