Gamlehaugen

The Gamlehaugen is a mansion that is used as the official residence of the Norwegian King when he visits Bergen. This beautiful mansion, which is located on top of a small hill in the suburbs of Bergen, used to be the residence of Christian Michelsen who served as the prime minister of Norway at the beginning of this century.

Strindberg Museum Strindbergsmuseet

The Strindberg Museum is the house in which J.A. Strindberg (1849 to 1912), one of the greatest naturalist writers and playwrights of Sweden spent his twilight years. It is now open to the public as a museum. Some theatrical acts are also performed here.

Den Fynske Landsby

An open-air museum located approximately 4km south of the city centre. 25 or more farmhouses typical of Funen during the 18th and 19th century are on display. The museum consists of a farm with people living and working there during the summer. A great activity to do during the summer.

Fish Market (Fisketorget)

The fish market is a bustling place for locals and tourists. It is located in the plaza, which faces the Bergen bay. Make sure you don’t miss the salt boiled shrimp and smoked salmon. If you wish to purchase vacuumed-packed salmon as a gift, do so at the tax-free market. Business hours: June to August Monday to Friday/Sundays 7am to 4pm September to May Monday to Saturday 7am to 4pm Closed: September to May Mondays

Ullensvang

Ullensvang is a small village located at the national park Hardangervidda, Europe's biggest mountain plateau (highest point, Haarteigen, 1,690 meters above sea level). Ullensvang is surrounded by the Harangerfjord, glaciers, and mountains of this district, which provides an exquisite view.


Uppsala

Uppsala is sweden’s fourth largest city and it is located 70km north of Stockholm. It is Scandinavia's largest University city and has been the base of Sweden's archbishop for over 700 years. 45 minutes by train from Stockholm Central Station, 40 minutes by bus from Arlanda airport. Uppsala is full of culture and is worth a visit.

Hanseatisk Museum

The Hanseatisk Museum is one of the buildings that was erected after the 1702 fire. It is an 18th century mercantile establishment that has been restored in its entirety.

Amalienborg

Ever since the fire of Christiansborg Castle in 1794, this palace has been used as the home of the royal family. Armed guardsmen stand in front of each building and the flag on top of the roof is raised whenever the Queen is in the palace. A traditional changing of the guard can be observed every day at noon.


Stora torget Square

The city's centre square located to the east of the city hall. Built in the mid 16th century, it is said to be the largest square in Scandinavia. It is also the centre for shopping and is loved by the local people. In the centre is a statue of King Charles X Gustav (1622 to 1660), who bravely led the war against Denmark.

Ilulissat

Ilulissat is the third largest settlement in Greenland and situate about 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. Illulisat also means "The Icebergs” and is Greenland's most popular tourist destination. At its eastern end is the Jakobshavn Isbræ glacier which is the most productive glacier in the northern hemisphere. The glacier flows at a rate of 20-35 metres per day, resulting in around 20 billion tonnes of icebergs calved off and passing out of the fjord every year. The Ilulissat Icefjord was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. In the summer, you can catch the "Midnight Cruise" under the midnight sun (end of May - end of July). You can also enjoy activates such ice hiking to the "Ice Fjord," dog sledding and glacier cruises.

The Bygdøy Region

This high-class residential area in Oslo, surrounded by greenery and flowers of every colour, features beautiful buildings and architecture. Plenty of traditional Norwegian museums are also located in this area. Bygdoy can be reached in 15 minutes by a ferry, which leaves outside the City Hall.


Drottningholms Castle

Drottningsholm Castel is located about 10km west of Stockholm and is the home of the Swedish Royal family. It is partially open to the public. The baroque style building is also known as the "Versailles of the North," and it has also been designated as a World Heritage Site. It was originally built as a castle for Princess Elenora in 1662 but was later converted to the present three-storey building in 1756 after many repeated renovations. It is also possible to visit the Chinese Pavillion (Kina Slott), located at the back of the large well-maintained garden.

Kalmar Castle Kalmar Slott

A renaissance style castle built by the sea where, in 1397, the Kalmar alliance was signed. It was originally built in the 12th century but due to a fire, the present castle is mostly 16th century. The inside is open to the public and a glamorous renaissance style interior can be seen.
