Royal Palace (Det Kongelige Slott)

The royal palace was completed in 1848 for the royal family, but it was built by Karl Johan XIV

Svaneholm Castle

A renaisance style castle along the E65 road. Built in 1530, it was renovated in the Venetian style in the 17th century. Houses a museum and the famous Svaneholms Gästgivargård restaurant, whose food has a great reputation (operates from April to December).

Fredensborg Castle

The Fredensborg Castle is still used as the summer house of the royal family. The large-scale painting that extends from the wall to the roof is based on the legend of the Trojan War.

Royal Palace Kungliga Slottet

This palace looks as if it is actually standing on the water. This is the place where Birger Jarl first built the castle, but the current building is of Dutch Renaissance style dating back to 1760. The palace has 608 rooms, but with the residential castle now located in Drottningholms Palace (Drottningholms Slott), this palace is only used on certain occasions, such as for entertaining state and public guests, and for housing diplomats. The King's working office is also located here.

Royal Theater (Det Kongelige Teater)

A theatre located to the south of Kongens Nytorv, and adjacent to Charlottenborg palace. It is separated into an old stage and new stage, and alternately stages ballets and operas.

Rosenborg Palace (Rosenborg Slot)

The Palace was constructed at the beginning of the 17th century. The treasure house inside the palace exhibits treasures of the royal family.

Steninge Castle & Culture Centre

The Steninge Castle is located on the outskirts of Sigtuna and it is a beautiful baroque style architecture that is built in 1705. The culture centre which is located next to the castle has, among other interesting things, a glass workshop where you can experience glass blowing. Sometimes people also get married here.

National Museum

The National Museum is housed in a white three-storey stone building overlooking the sea. It is the largest museum in Sweden and was founded in 1792 as a Royal Gallery, containing art works collected by Gustav Vasa. It showcases collections dating from the 15th century down to the present day, including 12.500 paintings, 500.000 drawings & sketches and 30.000 items of silverware and furniture. At this museum can find work by most well known Swedish artists such as Carl Larsson and Torsten Palm. It also features a large collection of works by French artists due to Sweden’s royal affiliation with the country

Stadshuskällaren

Stadshuskällaren is a restaurant that has wonderful atmosphere and it is located in the city hall. Here, you can eat like a Nobel Prize laureate and sample the genuine dinner menu of the Nobel Prize banquet. From the menu you can choose dishes from 1901 to the present day. Room sizes vary according to the number of diners. Reservations are required two days in advance.

Akershus Castle (Akershus Slott)

The castle was constructed around 1300 by King Håkon V Magnusson and later restored by Christian IV at the beginning of the 17th century and since then the castle has remained unchanged. The castle id presently used as a banquet hall for entertaining important national and international government personalities. The view from the garden overlooking Oslo is worth seeing.

Glimmingehus Castle

South west 10km from Simrishamn. Built between 1499 and 1505, this is one of Scandinavia's best preserved castles. There is a museum and a cafeteria available.

About 10km north of Sjöbo. A gustavian style castle built in 1761. There is a cafeteria available.

Klassbols textile factory (Klassbols Linnevaveri)

The Klassbols fabric factory is located on the outskirts of Karlstad. The table cloth and linen used at the Nobel Prize Giving reception are made here.
