The legendary exhibitions of the 1960s, such as Movement in Art, Wishful Museum and American Pop Art made modern art famous to the Swedes in a new way. With growing collections of both Swedish and international art, and after the large acquisition of classic works the need for a new building became urgent and in 1989, an architectural contest was launched, attracting 211 proposals out of which the Spanish architect Rafael Moneo and his proposal for Telemachos was chosen as the winner. This museum is well worth a visit and if you get tired of art, the museum has a fantastic restaurant that overlooks Stockholm’s bay.
