Ribe - A leap back in time

Borreby Castle (Borreby)

The Borreby Castel is the oldest renaissance-style construction in Denmark that is still standing. This astonishing castle appeared many times in Anderson's fairytales. It is located 3 km south of Skaelskor, south west of Zealand.

Modern Museum

In May 1958, Moderna Museet opened for the first time. The legendary exhibitions of the 1960s, such as Movement in Art, Wishful Museum and American Pop Art made modern art famous to the Swedes in a new way. With growing collections of both Swedish and international art, and after the large acquisition of classic works the need for a new building became urgent and in 1989, an architectural contest was launched, attracting 211 proposals out of which the Spanish architect Rafael Moneo and his proposal for Telemachos was chosen as the winner. This museum is well worth a visit and if you get tired of art, the museum has a fantastic restaurant that overlooks Stockholm’s bay.

Stockholm Culture House

‘Kulturhuset’ is situated on Sergels torg and it is designed by the architect Peter Celsing. It opened in 1974 and has since been a hub for art and culture. Inside, you will find three galleries, public exhibitions, theatre spaces, a library and numerous of restaurants. In the bottom of the house, the well known ‘Design Square’ is also located where you can purchase design items from emerging Swedish designers.

Norwegian Oil Field Museum

The Nork Oljemuseum is an experience-based museum in the middle of the city of Stavanger where you can see undersea oil fields up close. This is a popular attraction for both children and adults.

Nobel Peace Center (Nobels Fredssenter)

The Nobel Peace Centre opened June 11, 2005. The centre was constructed on the grounds of an old railway station near the Oslo City Hall where the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony is held on the 10th of December every year. The centre exhibits documents about the past Peace Prize winners and Alfred Nobel's efforts to raise interest in resolving wars and conflicts to achieve world peace. The centre has a lovely café and shop.

Fregatten Jylland

Fregatten Jylland is the longest wooden warship in the World. The boat is surrounded by a museum hall and Fregat Cafe, a ship building yard and a harbour for wooden ships. It is even possible to stay over at Fyrskib XXI or in a hammock at the frigate.

Fram Museum (Frammuseet)

The Fram Museum shows the history of the polar explorers. Here you’ll find the world’s most famous polarship, Fram, from 1892, which is the museum’s main attraction. The ship is displayed in its original condition with interior and objects perfectly preserved. Every visitor is welcome on board Fram.

Ribe Cathedral

Ribe Cathedral (Ribe Domkirke) (Jutland + sights & attractions + arts&culture) Although this cathedral had two towers when it was first built in the 12th century, one of the towers collapsed on the night of Christmas in 1283, killing several people. The current tower was reconstructed in 1333.

Polaria

Polaria is an exhibition centre that opened in May 1998. It has a unique exterior that attracts the visitors from all around the world. Polaria showcases large panoramic views of the Lofoten Islands, which features a presentation on the ecology of animals and plants in the Arctic Circle. The show gives you a good understanding of how living organisms and animals lead their lives in the Arctic region. You can also meet Bearded Seals and other cute animals at the aquarium.
