Funen
Fyn, called "Denmark's garden" by the famous writer of fairytales and Odense born Hans Christian Andersen. The Funen countryside and its towns and villages paint a harmonious picture. The many living fences unite forests and fields in a picturesque landscape, and small village idylls with their ponds, thatched, half-timbered houses, hollyhocks and old orchards are still everyday sights. At Funen a number of impressive architectural structures can also be found, including Nyborg Slot, the oldest castle in Denmark, and Egeskov Castle (Egeskov Slot), an ocean-based castle that many call the most beautiful castle in northern Europe .
